I’m fascinated by textile art. Where I live you don’t find many textile artists besides quilters and weavers. However, my city is filled with many art galleries for painters and the other classic styles that are considered “art”. Somehow textile art has not been able to elevate itself to this level. This original crocheted covered chair is by the Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos in collaboration with the famous contemporary furniture brand Roche Bobois. She reimagined one of their iconic chairs. Portugal has a long tradition of lace making, and this crochet work pays homage to this tradition by marrying the old with the new.
